Clearing the Kitchen Together
Kitchens are made for bringing families together.
This Month: Heart and Home
This Week: Shared Spaces
Our kitchen is small. At first it was really frustrating. Hardly any room for things…and tough to maneuver around each other while cooking. But over the last few years a few things have changed.
We removed redundant dishes and gadgets, spices we never used, and pots and pans that just never really showed up as something we needed. We even removed some of the cabinets to make the room feel more spacious.
We focused on keeping the horizontal surfaces clear and clean at all times, and stayed on top of dishes.
Now, we love working in the kitchen together. It’s pretty impressive to see up to 3 of us working in the kitchen at one time. It’s a well-synchronized dance that really shows how well we can work as a team.
This would not be possible if the counters were cluttered, dishes were always piled up, or if we had drawers and cabinets overflowing with clutter.
We still have plans to remodel the kitchen to make it even more spacious, but there is no rush. :)
Heart of the Home
The kitchen is where we cook, eat, and gather. It is also where clutter shows up fast.
Mail, extra gadgets, old food, and coffee mugs seem to multiply overnight. When you clear the space together, it becomes easier and more enjoyable.
More Hands, More Progress
Decluttering a shared space like the kitchen helps create a space that works for everyone. When each person has a say, the process may move a little slower, but the results are more sustainable since everyone has buy-in.
It is also easier to see what gets used and what can go.
Tiny Steps Forward…
Carve out whatever time you can, set a timer, put on some tunes, and try the following things. Make it fun!
Check for expired items in the fridge.
Organize snacks and ingredients in the pantry.
Keep the gizmos and utensils you love and use.
Clear off anything from the counters that belongs elsewhere.
Are you working on the kitchen this week? Reply and share your progress!
Keep simplifying your space, mind, and life!
