How Decluttering Eases Mental Load

This Month: Clearing Mental Clutter

This Week: Decision Fatigue

Ever tried juggling? It’s hard.

I’ve gotten halfway decent at juggling 3 items, but can’t seem to quite get it with 4. And definitely not 5. The math is simple. The more you try to juggle, the harder it becomes.

Your brain deals with this every day. It tracks your to-do list, your emails, the laundry pile, and that one random screw you found on the floor. Where did it come from? Should you keep it? The list is endless.

Now of course our brains are extremely powerful and can handle quite a lot, but there are definitely limits. So why not focus on giving it a little more room to focus on important things instead of clutter?

Clutter, after all, isn’t just stuff. It is decisions waiting to be made. And every one of them adds to your mental load.

The less clutter you have, the fewer decisions you have to make. The fewer decisions, the lighter your brain feels. But that is just the start.

Decluttering clears space in your home, but it also clears space in your mind. It reduces stress, makes it easier to focus, and gives you back time that would have been spent searching, sorting, or second-guessing.

Another added benefit is that it creates a sense of control. When your space is in order, life feels more manageable. You make better choices, feel more at peace, and have more energy for the things that matter.

Today, try this. Pick one thing. Just one. A messy drawer. An overloaded shelf. A pile of papers.

Tackle it. Feel the weight lift.

Your brain will thank you.

Hope you’re having a great week!

Yours in Simplicity,

-Jimmy
