Streamlining Routines

Back in my manufacturing days, I learned real quick that if a process isn’t simple, it breaks. Things slow down. Mistakes pile up. People get frustrated. That’s where I first got into Lean thinking. It was all about cutting out waste, tightening up the flow, and creating systems that actually work. It wasn’t just about speed. It was about clarity. About making things easier and more consistent for everyone involved. And that lesson has stuck with me ever since. Whether it’s how I manage my schedule, run my home, or coach others, for me it always comes back to streamlining. That’s why I was so pumped to share this week’s guest blog from Dee Zimmerman. She brings that same clarity and focus to personal finance. Her approach to simplifying money routines is spot on, and it’s something I think every one of us can benefit from. Enjoy! | ![]() |
Simple & Sustainable
This week’s guest voice comes from someone who lives and breathes intentional living, Dee Zimmerman. She’s a financial coach with a gift for making money feel manageable and even enjoyable again.
In her latest piece, Financial Peace Starts with a Simpler System, Dee lays out her MoneyOps System™, which helps individuals and couples streamline their financial routines using three core steps:
Simplify – Start by decluttering your financial tasks. Cut the extras. Keep the essentials.
Organize – Group those tasks and set a rhythm so they’re easier to stick to.
Automate – Use tools and systems that reduce your stress and save time.
It’s such a grounded and empowering process, and it mirrors exactly what I teach in essentialism coaching. Dee’s approach works because it makes your money serve your life, not the other way around.
One of my favorite quotes from her blog:
“When we get it wrong, we avoid money, make poor decisions, or let the chaos bleed into other areas. But when we get it right, peace enters.”
She reminds us that managing money well is less about doing more, and more about doing fewer things, better.
You can read Dee’s full blog here, and if you want help applying it, Dee’s also got room for a few more folks in her July coaching cohort.
Daily Doables
Mon: Pick one routine that feels messy and name exactly what’s frustrating about it. Awareness is the first step.
Tue: Cancel or delete one recurring task, meeting, or habit that no longer serves you.
Wed: Choose one task you can batch with others and schedule it all at once this week.
Thu: Find one spot in your home or digital life that needs a clearer structure. Then fix it.
Fri: Set a timer for 15 minutes and look for something you can automate. Either with a tool, a setting, or a system.
Sat: Create a simple checklist for a recurring routine so you don’t have to rely on memory anymore.
Sun: Take five minutes to celebrate one small improvement you made. This reinforces the habit of streamlining.
Let me know what you tried!
Parting Points
Every process has a cost. When it’s cluttered, you pay in time, energy, and peace.
But when it’s streamlined, it gives back. It runs smoother. It creates margin. It frees you up for what really matters.
Whether it’s your money, your mornings, or your mental load, there’s always a simpler way forward..
Yours in Simplicity,

PS - I’m offering up to 30 minutes of my time to talk through any challenge(s) you might be facing.
No charge. No sales pitch. No BS.
Just a clutter-free conversation to see how I can help. You can just reply to this email or go to my website to book a time. Easy peasy. I hope you take me up on it.
I do offer 1:1 coaching, but I won’t even broach that topic unless it’s something you’d like to talk about. Hope to hear from you!
