Momentum Over Perfection
Get the M.O.P., it’s time to clean up!
You should be far more concerned with your current trajectory than with your current results.
Our Focus…
This Month: Foundation Setting
This Week: Quick Wins
Today: Momentum Over Perfection
If there is one thing I want to impress upon you with this newsletter, its this…moving forward is the only trick.
There is a time to tackle major projects, or put in heroic efforts, but for the most part, slow, steady, and small steps forward feel very satisfying.
They compound and gain momentum. After a period, you’ll look back and wonder how you got there.
Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do…excellence, therefore, isn’t an act, but a habit and life isn’t a series of events, but an ongoing process of self-definition.”
And that message really slaps (as the kids say…or at least I think they do).
This applies to just about every aspect of life, but of course we’re talking about decluttering here.
So lets get after it.
The Concept
We often get caught up in the idea that everything has to be perfect before we start decluttering.
But perfection can stop us in our tracks. Instead of waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect system, what really moves us forward is simply getting started.
Small progress is powerful. It’s momentum, not perfection, that makes the biggest difference.
How It Affects Us
When we aim for perfection, we end up stuck.
We hesitate to declutter because we think it has to be done in one big swoop or that we need a flawless plan. This can create more clutter and more frustration.
The truth is, perfectionism keeps us from experiencing the clarity and freedom that come with decluttering.
A Small Step Forward
Pick one item, or one corner of a drawer, and take action.
Set a timer for just two minutes and focus on making that small, easy choice. Don’t worry about the bigger picture—just make one tiny move.
That small step creates momentum, and before you know it, you’ll feel the shift and be ready for the next step.
What if you did this every day? Hmmmm.
Note: Paid subscribers will have access to a worksheet related to today’s topic. It’s one that could be used over and over, so I might consider laminating it in order to reuse. But let me know your thoughts!
