The Freedom of Letting Go
This Month: Clearing Mental Clutter
This Week: The Power of Less
“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; and may the rain fall soft upon your lands."
St. Patrick’s Day used to be a big drinking day for me. Green beer, loud bars, and waking up the next morning wondering why I made some of those choices. But these days, it looks a little different.
I don’t drink anymore. It wasn’t some big dramatic decision. It just stopped aligning with who I want to be.
The more I simplified my life, the more I realized that I didn’t need alcohol to enjoy myself. I definitely didn’t need the headaches, heartaches and financial burden that came with it.
It got me thinking about identity. So much of what we do is tied to who we think we are.
“I’m the life of the party.”
“I always say yes.”
“I’m the one who holds it all together.”
But identities aren’t set in stone. They shift and evolve as we grow.
So I didn’t just walk away from alcohol, I walked away from that version of me towards an identity that feels truer to me.
If there’s a part of your life that feels off, it might be worth asking if it still fits who you are or who you want to be. Decluttering is about letting go of anything that weighs you down. That includes old habits or stories you’ve told yourself.
This St. Paddy’s Day, I’ll be raising a glass of something nonalcoholic and feeling lucky for the clarity and peace I’ve found.
Maybe it’s time to check in with your identity too.
Yours in Simplicity,
-Jimmy
