How to Simplify Your Thought Life
This Month: Heart and Home
This Week: Mindful Minimalism
Happy Thor’s Day, you decluttering decathlete!
Sticking with this week’s theme, I want to jump into our minds, particularly our thought life.
Your thought life is the running dialogue in your mind. It’s the constant stream of ideas, worries, memories, and plans playing on repeat. (I see your head nodding, so I must be onto something.)
When your thought life is cluttered, it’s hard to focus on what matters. You jump from one worry to the next. It leaves little room for peace or clarity.
Just like your home, your mind can be decluttered. The goal is to remove a little of that clutter in order to think clearer. Consider how much easier it is to find things after you’ve cleared out your fridge of expired items, etc. It’s a bit like that.
Decluttering your mind lowers stress, and ultimately helps you show up as the person you want to be.
So why not try a brain dump?
Grab a piece of paper and write down every thought swirling in your mind. Tasks, worries, random ideas, goals, to-dos, etc.
Then ask yourself:
What needs my attention right now?
What can I let go of?
What’s just noise?
Even five minutes of this can clear out mental clutter and create space for more intentional and useful thoughts.
Note: I’ve found this to be particularly useful to do before bed, though to be honest, anytime I take the time to journal it is worthwhile.
Hit that reply button to let me know your thoughts on this.
Thanks for stopping by!
Yours in Simplicity,
-Jimmy
