Finding Joy in Less

This Month: Heart and Home

This Week: Mindful Minimalism

Hello again!

Today is “No Buy Friday”, a nationwide economic blackout, encouraging people to pause their spending as a protest against corporate greed. It’s not quite as popular as Black Friday, yet…but that name might fit this one better?

I of course love this idea, but to be fair most days I really don’t buy much. But whether you’re joining or not, there is a hidden lesson in the movement.

When you stop buying by default, you start noticing how often you reach for your wallet without thinking.

On top of that, a lot of us…well, most of us, really tend to think more stuff equals more happiness.

More clothes, more gadgets, more options.

But too many choices can actually make life harder. Instead of feeling happier, we feel overwhelmed.

Less stuff means less to clean, less to manage, and less to stress about. It clears space not just in your home, but in your mind.

Another benefit of owning less is that you notice more. Which is no surprise really. For example, when you put your phone down, you start to notice there are actually other human beings nearby that would like your attention. :)

A simple cup of coffee becomes a little moment of peace. A quiet room feels like a luxury. The things you do have start to matter more.

Joy isn’t buried in more things.

It is waiting for you in the space you create and curate.

If you’re up for a challenge, choose one small area today. A drawer, a shelf, or your car.

Remove three things you don’t need. See how it feels to have a little less. Joy might be waiting for you underneath.

Wishing you a spacious and joyful weekend!

Yours in Simplicity,
